About Thomas Adams
How you got started/why this partnership?
I responded to an ad in the newspaper - "make $25 an hour..." as I needed fast money to pull off a post graduation European vacation. The ad got me to apply, and Christian Hunter got me to stay. He was the brightest most ambitious businessman I had ever met. I wanted to learn all I could from him and I was ready to work hard and be a part of something special. Christian skipped the college experience since he was busy working... I was having fun at the University of California at Santa Barbara and learning the importance of personal relationships. We needed each other and traded a business education for a social one - it was the recipe for a perfect partnership.
What's happening now and what's exciting?
After finishing 15 wonderful years with our first business love, Bargain.com, we realized that retirement isn't nearly as fun as the thrill of building and developing companies! Armed with money, great business relationships, and invaluable experience, we're as excited as ever to be back in the game. We just love business.
What sets you apart?
Well you know, I think it's my partner. Christian Hunter is the smartest person I know, and that's a pretty important differentiator. We take business seriously, but we don't take ourselves too seriously. The part of our success that I'm most proud of is the fact that we haven't forgotten to enjoy ourselves along the way. I believe this quality has enabled us to attract some great people to work with over the years and we understand and respect the value of a "team". This has been key and many of our "partners" are playing together again this time around - we really have a special business family.
What will be your business legacy?
We want to be the best in the world at the businesses we invest ourselves in. We are very competitive and we love to win. It's easy to work hard... and we do. But we also want to be remembered for having had fun along the ride, lots of fun. Life's short and it's too important not to.
Who are your role models?
It might sound cliche, but I am truly blessed with the best father in the world. He worked very hard to provide for our family but ALWAYS made time to be a part of every aspect of my life - more than any father I've ever seen. He has been a great friend and has taught me many valuable life-lessons that I use all the time. He often reminds me of the value of a good laugh, and what great therapy that has been over the years.
